I'm playing the waiting game a lot these days.

Mainly, I'm waiting to hear back about that job I think I got, as well as some other formal aspects of rl. The job isn't a concerned sort of waiting, though - the woman I talked to was very straightforward that if I didn't hear from them by Wednesday, I should call to see what delayed the process. I just... Rather hear from them first, of course, heh.

Then, of course, there's waiting for Steven Universe to come back from hiatus. Obviously, a very different kind of waiting game. In that one, it's just something that enters my head twice a week, makes me irritated, and then it passes. No harm, no foul.

Still, I'm thinking it can't hurt to find more productive things to do during my "me time". I've been really bored lately, and in case I don't get this job - well, obviously I'll still be looking for a job. But when I have downtime from that and other basic daily activities/social activities, I'd like to keep in a mentally happy, healthy, and productive place.

My ideas for this include wrapping up shows I've been meaning to finish (Legend of Korra, All Hail King Julien, Burn Notice, etc.), reading books from the local library, and doing more hands-on creating! For that last one, I found this Disney DIY video; part of a series of eight - so there's bound to be some fun ideas there!

So, guys, what's been keeping you busy - for better or worse - lately?

Also!

Goals

I... May have gotten a job yesterday? The interview at the coffee place was seriously just 'what are your availability hours and can you get here reliably?'. It would be awesome to be working outside the house again, but I'm also kind of nervous about getting along with my co-worker. Just an anxiety thing, though.

I've been looking into healthy eating, (again... Finally!), and I'm trying to plan out a nutritious shopping list. I'm also looking to get back into a good exercise routine as it cools down a bit, weather-wise. Mostly walking and Tai Chi (the latter via youtube instructional videos) for a start; might get back to the gym and work on some of the weight-lifting kind of machines eventually.

And then there's writing. I haven't written much yet this month, although I'm working on a piece of Pokemon fic that centers around original characters. I really love the characters I've come up with, too, so it might be a step towards original fiction featuring these guys. I personally never have valued original fiction over fanfiction, but let's face it, only one of these things will make me money. :P

Of course, reading is a huge part of being able to write well, at least for me. My reading goals aren't particularly lofty right now, though. >-> I bought one of the Descendants: School of Secrets books because it's about Lonnie, Jay, and Jordan - three of my faves! - and that's aimed at a pre-teen to early teen audience. I just hope it will be a good step into reading more substantial things? And also that it'll be a fun read!

I'm taking a two-session writing class with my local adult education program, too, and looking forward to that a lot.

...You know, half the times I write an entry in here, I think of the film version of The Princess Dairies: "And then I realized how many stupid times a day I use the word 'I'."

Sure, it's different when you're writing a journal entry, even one to share online. It's very different. Still, it got me thinking about including questions in these entries. Conversation starters. It's always fun to hear about others' lives.

So, what goals are you all working on lately? Have you read anything good, or created anything you're particularly proud of?

I've gotten into the habit of checking for new episode airdates of Steven Universe at least twice a week... Siiiiigh. Now I know how those who've watched the show from the start have felt with all these hiatuses. Ah, well. They have to come eventually... I hope.

My brother sent my an Etsy gift certificate for my birthday, and an absolutely stunning Blue Pearl doll is coming my way soon! The doll is customized from a Monster High model, and I'll definitely link to the inevitable instagram pictures.

My birthday was really nice, too! I went with some family to one of those Japanese restaurants where you keep ordering sushi by checking off a piece of paper, and you just pay a flat price? It was delicious.

On an actual serious note, if anyone is in a hurricane-affected area, or knows someone who is, please know that you are in my thoughts.

So, next month, I'm traveling to Florida to visit some family, and a few of us will be taking two days to visit Disney World!

I'm so excited!

It looks like we'll be visiting Animal Kingdom on one day, to see the new Pandora-themed area. (I didn't love the movie Avatar, but it does sound like a cool addition to the park!) I'm not sure what the second day will be. Either Magic Kingdom or EPCOT, I believe. I think it's going to come down to my vote on that one, so I'll have to read up on what's in each park these days. I won't be there in time to go on either of the rides that are closing, (Ellen's Energy Adventure in EPCOT or The Great Movie Ride in Hollywood Studios), but tbh, that really just makes it easier to pick which park for Day 2. (Because The Great Movie Ride is one of the biggest draws of Hollywood Studios for me.)

I'm not sure how prominent Pin Trading is anymore. Last time I went to the park, they were pushing Vinylmation a lot, but that trend seems to have faded in favor of Tsum-Tsum. Still, I've sorted out the pins I'm willing to trade and will be taking with me, so hopefully, even if they're selling fewer pins and fewer Guests are trading, the Cast Members still have lanyards for trading.

Disbelief.

I'm so upset about what happened in my country today.
dolewhip: (Sleeping Beauty: Aurora)
Hey guys! I promise I'm still kicking, heheh. I'm a bit emotionally exhausted as of late, so I won't be here much, but I'll be back! <3

If nothing else, I'll probably be doing some Pokemon gaming updates in upcoming days.

Lesson learned: Moving, even just across the hall, is stressful. Especially when it's hot and muggy.

On the other hand, I'm playing Alpha Sapphire as a de-stresser, and my starter Torchic surprised me by being female. With my brief revisit to Gen 5 having Garnet the Tepig, and of course, Dawn the Primarina in Moon, that's three first-try female starters in a row.

I feel like all I ever do here anymore is complain... I really don't want to be in that place again, though. The place where everything I put out there is negative.

So let's see... While cleaning today, I found some Sculpey. It's unwrapped, and in lovely condition. I'm not sure what I want to make with it, but I look forward to it. I haven't made any three-dimensional art in years, after all.

I could use it to work on a custom Dungeons & Dragons miniature, once I figure out my new character. A couple I'm good friends with has started teaching me the ways of DnD, and it's fun! I thought I'd like the character creation process more than actually engaging in the roleplay, but the opposite is actually true - go figure! Now I just need to figure out my next character... The first one I made is just kind of ill-defined in terms of traits and such; she's not coming together for me.

I'm thinking a Halfling, this time around...
dolewhip: (Descendants: Jay)
I slipped back into not keeping up with my journal or reading page. Oops. I also haven't been writing.

Well, okay, that's actually untrue! I've been writing, but it's all been in forum rp. I'm having fun, but not getting any of my owed fills or my tables done. Now, it just doesn't make sense to double my time for writing, so I'll have to balance out what I'm writing in the time I do have.

I can't believe how quickly we're wrapping up May and heading into June! I know we have about half of May left, but the first half felt like such a blur. While I hate to see spring leave so quickly - we didn't have any spring weather here in April; not really - I'm so excited for this summer! Connecticon is going to be great, and I'm also 100% ready for Descendants 2 to come out already. (Seriously, this franchise is the best ridiculous, campy guilty pleasure I've indulged in in a long, long time.)

Also, so the real world is sure... I mean... That's... Happening.
dolewhip: (Pokemon: Zinnia)
Kind of a rough weekend for me, all around. But tomorrow there's a new Steven Universe, plus I'll be seeing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

An uplifting part of yesterday was re-watching the original Guardians of the Galaxy while eating Milano cookies... Get it?
dolewhip: (Star Wars: Rey)
Happy Star Wars Day, y'all! May the Force be with you! ;D

I'm in a better mood than I was last night, even though I didn't get much sleep and I'm still not feeling very creative... But a fresh morning - even one as cold as this - is always a good upper, eh?

I have a pretty short shift today, too, so that's kind of nice! And it's payday; gotta love that.

In the back of my mind, I'm toying with the idea of starting a live action canon Disney Kink Meme, as the existing current Disney Kink Meme is strictly for the animated canon or crossovers involving the animated canon. With Disney making so many live action remakes these days, it just feels like a logical thing to do. I'm not sure if I'd include Star Wars or MCU, since those things have their own Kink Memes, but my general feeling is "if it falls under the right category, it should be allowed", without specifications or stipulations.

Of course, this would also cover Disney's original live action films, from the Pirates franchise to the oldies like 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I'm less certain where Disney Channel films or series would fall, because while I'm personally all for including them, I also barely use kink memes for kinky writing... But others do, of course, and might be uncomfortable with that point.
dolewhip: (Inside Out: Disgust)
Trying to stay on top of journaling and general life. It hasn't exactly been working, especially since I've been a bit depressed lately.

Six days until Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,  though, and after that, three days until the next new Steven Universe.

I have two outstanding prompts owed at the Disney Kink Meme; I'd love to get on that soon but my creativity feels kind of stifled these days.

Anyway...

Give me a fandom and I'll tell you:

1. the character I least understand
2. interactions I enjoyed the most
3. the character who scares me the most
4. the character who is mostly like me
5. hottest looks character
6. one thing I dislike about my fave character
7. one thing I like about my hated character
8. a quote or scene that haunts me
9. a character I wish died but didn’t
10. my ship that never sailed
dolewhip: (Pokemon: Spring)
I'm a fall (technically, summer!) baby, but spring is definitely my favorite season! And though the advertising world is clearly ready to jump right ahead to summer, I am staying right here in springtime, baby.

Crocuses, chipmunks, and birdsongs, oh my! I love this time of year! And it's a slightly chilly, 'late winter in Florida'* type of Spring most days so far, which I'm loving. I run a little warm, so I love when it's a bit cold out. The cold never bothered me, anyway.

My cosplays for Amethyst (Steven Universe) and Guzma (Pokemon Sun and Moon) are complete in the sense that all my purchases have been made for each! Just waiting on a handful of Etsy deliveries now... I also have the rest of the Steven Universe Funko Pops arriving today, oops. (You all might get pictures.)

But I love that I'm making decent money, and can buy little things on the side while still saving for my apartment! And speaking of making decent money... I have applied for a new job! I'm really, really hoping to get this receptionist position: the hours are consistent, I already know and like the people I'd be working with, and I'd be so good at it; I really believe that! Please hope for the best for me, guys!

*I do not live in Florida, I just used to be there in February with some frequency.
dolewhip: (Frozen: Olaf)
Guys, it's been a long, cold, lonely winter - but here comes the sun. No, literally: it's finally starting to warm up outside! There seems to be a bit of a jump from winter to summer weather, which I don't like - spring is my favorite season - but warmth is warmth, and I'll take what I can get.

Life has been... Strange, but getting good. Family stuff. Some ties have been all but severed, and some bonds have been made stronger, but all in all, I can say everything is for the best.

There's an upcoming Pokemon Online Competition that I'll be eagerly signing up for! I believe my team is prepared. (The search for a Black Sludge would have been the biggest pain ever if I didn't find two shinies while going through Grimers!)

I realized yesterday - while browsing Etsy - that I desperately want to cosplay as Guzma (fem!Guzma, I suppose) in addition to Amethyst for the convention in July... I'll have to figure out if I can swing that. If I can, I think I'll use one pair of white sneakers for both Guzma and Amethyst, instead of getting the white booties for Amethyst. Shoes are so expensive.
dolewhip: (Pokemon: Drifloon)
This year was the first time I really, truly enjoyed an Easter family dinner! This probably had a lot to do with the fact that there were only ten of us there - it wasn't about who wasn't there, it was about the small size. I could actually converse with everyone at the table, and it was so pleasant!

My parents even gave me a gift! I got three Steven Universe Funko Pops: Amethyst and Pearl... And Steven! I need to get my hands on Garnet now, though. I fear they've awakened a beast. ;)

Relatedly: In my continued procrastination on a bigger writing project, I've created a Steven Universe OC. She's Moonstone, because I really love moonstones, and while I still don't have a cemented backstory for her - nor do I have a solid idea of what she looks like - I'm in love with her personality already. She's really fun to write about.

The new 'Tangled' sequel tv series kick-off movie airs in three days! I'm not sure whether I should be hopefully or nervous, ha! I'll admit, my hopes aren't all that high, but you never know!

The new 'Dream Big, Princess' video by Disney features Princess Elena, so... Is she part of the official line-up now? That would be pretty cool! I've only seen three episodes of Elena of Avalor so far, and it's - you know, it's a kiddie show, but it is very cute and fun!

I have three days off starting today, because scheduling at work is inconsistent - but hey, that's fine with me! I'm going to do some intense cleaning starting today, so that should be... Okay, not fun, but rewarding, at least!

...Oops.

I owe my local library $16, apparently. Couldn't find some books and DVDs for a while... Hopefully I can just pay the late fees and won't be required to pay the replacement fines, since I did eventually find everything. Hopefully I can run it in today.

I also need to borrow their copy of How to Train Your Dragon 2, soooo...

I'm behind on Steven Universe AND Big Bang Theory by three episodes each, so I'm hoping to fix that today, as well. I don't go into work until 4:30 today, and I'll basically be in until closing after that. Not bad at all, since the store usually gets pretty quiet after 5 or 6.

I am now officially and completely settled on a Camp NaNo project, and I'm wildly excited about what I've come up with! I need to get some planning in, though, or it's going to be a total mess. I made a playlist for it, does that count?

I hope everyone's doing well!

Oh, right, and Pokemon Moon update! Team remains the same, although I'm on Poni Island, so Ella should be evolving soon! More excitingly... Between carrying over Pokemon from my first run via Pokemon Bank, and a lot of GTS trading, I have already completed the Pokedex and gotten the Shiny Charm!
