I've decided to try something I don't go for as often as, perhaps, I should. I'm wondering if anyone would be willing to Beta for me. In this case, I'm looking for a Beta for my Steven Universe College (University) AU. Familiarity with Steven Universe is a must, and being caught up on the show would definitely be ideal.

An open mind and willingness to read uncommon ships is also a must. This is a very, very slash-tastic AU - I legit think Greg/Rose is the only het ship I've got going, maybe one or two other minor ones - but we are talking about Steven Universe here, so I'm hoping that won't be an issue.

We can communicate over email, or we can stick to DreamWidth, in which case I'll set up Google Docs, or just post private entries. Or if there's a third option you want to explore? Sure, let me know and I'll try to make it work!

Also, if you can't offer to Beta, but you think you know someone who'd be interested, or know of some kind of Beta-finding community here on DW, please tell me about them/the comm!

If you'd like to see some of my writing, my AO3 works are here. What I have up there isn't exactly recent, but it's what I've written most recently (and beyond). Honestly, I could have done varying degrees of better on certain fics especially. ('Hoist the Colors' and 'test my limits' are only still up because they were gifts, and unfortunately, I just realized they were gifts for the same person. Alas.)

Important Edit: Let me know if there are topics you're uncomfortable reading, too, in case those would be a problem.

The only big, triggering issues I'm dealing with so far are Lapis having been in an emotionally/verbally abusive relationship with (an "offstage") Jasper and the death of a character who very, very roughly represents Pink Diamond, which isn't so much explored in detail, itself, but will probably involve a terminal illness, and the character who (very, very roughly) represents Blue Diamond is her sister who hasn't dealt with the loss very well. (I took the sibling path over the admittedly-more-likely-in-canon romantic path; it's not incestuous.)

But already, I've also got a very 'Lapis has a morbid sense of humor' reference to fire and people (specifically, Lapis) burning, so YMMV.

Second Edit: The first part of the College AU is up, actually, without having been Beta Read, so that can give you an idea of what you're getting into!

It's so hot. I hate this. I didn't mind all the rain at all, and now... Ugh. I'm melting. Anyway.

I have a big writing project in the works, specifically, my Treat Yo Self Descendants reboot... Thing. So that's exciting, and will probably double as my Camp NaNo project in July.

I want to warm up with some, like, shorter things, though. I haven't really written fic in a kind of a while - you know, by my standards - so I'd like to get un-rusty. Thing is... I can't decide what I want to write. I have a few ideas: A Steven Universe college AU is the big one that keeps coming up, but... It might be easier if I'd been in college a) longer and b) more recently. And... I know I have other ideas to write jotted down somewhere, but I can't remember what they are, or where I wrote them down.

I'm pretty focused on SU for the warm-up writing, since it won't be my Camp NaNo/Treat Yo Self project, and I've had 'all the feels' since Wanted. Um... But yeah! It's weird, I have motivation to write, and inspiration to write, but just... Not enough of either, I guess.

I think I can blame the heat for all the motivation I'm missing, honestly. This kind of weather always makes me feel so sluggish. (I love summer as a concept - the idea of freedom and creativity and all that during summer is still drilled in my brain from my school days, and Phineas and Ferb, but why can't we have that big break in spring? Which, yes, I suppose it's technically still spring for a few more days, but you know.)

Since my last (access-only) entry was... Pretty much a total downer, I thought I'd post something happy before I left for work today. Here are a few things that are making me smile today:

The official release of the Steven Universe soundtrack yesterday was the best thing. I think I've listened to the whole thing through three times already, heh!

The dolls I probably shouldn't have ordered from the Disney Store site arrive Monday, which is going to be fun. Can't wait to take pictures! (I have an Instagram account for doll photography. Yup, dollstagram is definitely A Thing.)

I've been rewatching Phineas and Ferb on Netflix, and honestly, I'd forgotten how funny and clever the show is!

My first non-holiday fic/art exchange will have the works up tomorrow, iirc, and I'm so pumped - not to mention super curious as to which of my requests was filled. (I mean, I have a suspicion just based on which fandom is most popular, but still - exciting!)

[personal profile] evilkingstan expressed interest in my Steven Universe & Guardians of the Galaxy crossover, so I'm putting the ideas I've jotted down thus far here! MAJOR spoilers for both fandoms ahead.

Again, spoilers! )

Good & Bad

Good Stuff: Yesterday I saw Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, and today I got up-to-date with Steven Universe. If anyone reading this has seen GotG Vol 2 and is caught up on SU, let me know, please! I have an idea for a crossover I might write with lots of BrOTP, if anyone's interested in hearing about it.

Bad Stuff: Exhaustion, mostly. I'm also still kind of in a depressed funk.

Kind of a rough weekend for me, all around. But tomorrow there's a new Steven Universe, plus I'll be seeing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.

An uplifting part of yesterday was re-watching the original Guardians of the Galaxy while eating Milano cookies... Get it?

Shelby Rabara is going to be at the convention I'm attending in July! I'm just as excited as can be about that!

This year was the first time I really, truly enjoyed an Easter family dinner! This probably had a lot to do with the fact that there were only ten of us there - it wasn't about who wasn't there, it was about the small size. I could actually converse with everyone at the table, and it was so pleasant!

My parents even gave me a gift! I got three Steven Universe Funko Pops: Amethyst and Pearl... And Steven! I need to get my hands on Garnet now, though. I fear they've awakened a beast. ;)

Relatedly: In my continued procrastination on a bigger writing project, I've created a Steven Universe OC. She's Moonstone, because I really love moonstones, and while I still don't have a cemented backstory for her - nor do I have a solid idea of what she looks like - I'm in love with her personality already. She's really fun to write about.

The theme for prompts on [livejournal.com profile] femslash100's 13th Drabble Cycle is 'Fanfic Tropes'. I have claimed the character Pearl from Steven Universe for my first table, which is as follows:

1. Enemies to lovers 2. Meeting the family/parents 3. Reunions 4. Road trip 5. Alternate Universe
6. Proposal 7. Domestic 8. Crossover 9. Cross-dressing 10. Fantasies/dreams

I only truly ship Pearl with Bismuth at this point, although I'm several episodes behind, as well, so we'll see. Anyway, that means I'll be writing some ships I only ship-ish, or used to ship more than I do now.

For the curious, the planned ships, in order that the prompts appear:

01. Pearl/Jasper
02. Pearl/Mystery Girl
03. Pearl/Bismuth
04. Pearl/Amethyst
05. Pearl/Garnet
06. Pearl/Amethyst
07. Pearl/Jasper
08. Pearl/adult!Lilo (Lilo & Stitch) (subject to change)
09. Pearl/Bismuth
10. Pearl/Peridot

Hmm...

So tired. It took me until after midnight to fall asleep last night. Or, technically, to fall asleep this morning. Ugh, whichever way you wanna frame it, it was too little sleep!

I finished Toradora! yesterday. It might be my new favorite anime... Not that I've watched many others. Pretty much just Ouran and most of Fruits Basket, both of which were also great...

I also played some more Pokemon Moon last evening, which was fun - I rarely play the game at night because I tend to fall asleep playing it, so with Moon, that means I don't get to see daytime in the game that often. Alola is so bright and beautiful, and I had particular fun with the Pokemon Refresh feature last night.

My team currently consists of: Dawn the Brionne, Ella the Charjbug, and Moonshy the Alolan Persian, along with a "mysterious" egg, and I've just beaten Kiawe's Trial! I'll probably play more this morning so I can get to Mallow's Trial, because Mallow is one of my favorite more minor NPCs in the game... I also want to get to a certain someone's cameo!

I also need to start up playing Pokemon Blue again. I think I want to start a new save, and I think I want to wait until after I finish this runthrough of Moon, but I'm still excited for it. I mean even do an in-character run of Blue, because I'm a silly geek like that. I tend to ignore the default male of the player character in Red/Blue/Yellow/etc., and the storyline itself makes it easy to do so, so the possibilities for character to pick are endless! And I could make it a Nuzlocke on top of that, for some higher stakes and more challenge/fun... Hmm, I'm thinking maybe Amethyst for the player character and Jasper as the rival? Or, heck, Green/Blue/whatever you want to call him could even be Amethyst, and Pearl or Peridot could be who I pick to be the player character? I mean, let's face it, Green and Amethyst have fairly similar attitudes!

So, on that note... Smell ya guys later!

Sunday may be a big night in Hollywood, and I'm so excited for the Oscars, but then the following Tuesday is... Mardi Gras! Admittedly, the extent of my celebrations will be watching The Princess and the Frog, but it's such a cool holiday - especially as I may also use it as an excuse to cook some interesting Fat Tuesday sort of dishes!

Speaking of cooking, last night I made this pasta in cheese sauce with crisped salami and peas? Made the sauce from scratch, too, with provolone and swiss cheeses... Absolutely delicious! I'm pretty proud of that dish, because I barely followed any recipes for it.

I also got this year's first new issue of the Steven Universe comic on my Kindle last night, since I was sick and wanted to distract myself. I wasn't going to buy a single issue - a prefer whole volumes, you know? - but then I read that the story featured Peridot and Lapis, and well, what's a girl to do? Let me tell you, it did not disappoint!
